We are at an infection point across three vectors:
- Attackers who now reap keys to decrypt later (HNDL) and unlock sensitive information with extended abuse of quantum calculation.
- Providers of quantum computers are now in addition to incubation with plans to scalance their data centers and effectively reduce obstacles to access to these sources.
- The publication of federal security standards recently published by NIST, such as FIPS 203 Ml-KEM-1024, provides a cryptographic framework designed to ensure data against the emerging quantum computational threats and increase the sense of urgency.
Although neither representative, nor are they limited to HNDL, nor a new encryption mechanism based on static standards, and certainly democratizes the approach to quantum calculation at low costs, it is not slow. These aspects develop rapidly along their own trajectories through public, private and academic partnerships around the world.
Traditional encryption methods that have protected digital communication for decades are threatened by violations. Migration infrastructure on quantum resistant cryptography
Cisco is determined to ensure a smooth transition from classical cryptographic methods to quantum resistant algorithms. Our strategy included:
- Acceptance based on standards: We actively cooperate with NIST, IETF and other industrial bodies to verify and standardize PQC algorithms into our solutions, ensuring interoperability and robust security.
- Incremental deployment: Rather than overnight overnight, we set up a gradual approach and integrate hybrid cryptographic models that combine classic and quantum safe techniques during the transition period.
- Hardware and software readiness: Cisco evaluates the impact of PQC on existing and future network hardware and accepts that our routers, switches and safety appliances can smoothly support new cryptographic primitive cryptographic.
- Integration of zero trust across a hybrid cloud: We develop our solutions to secure cloud native and architectures of zero trust to include verification and encryption resistant to quantum, sensitive data in transit and calm.
Evaluation: readiness and relief of risk
Organizations must assess their current cryptographic posture and readiness to migrate to PQC. Cisco helps customers through:
- Analysis of cryptographic inventory and impact: Identification of all cryptographic addictions across the organization’s infrastructure to determine which components require upgrade.
- The assessment of quantum risk: Evaluation of potential injury and preference of remediation strategies based on exhibition risks and regulatory requirements.
- Pilot testing and verification: Implementation of PQC test, scalabibility and operational impact in preparation for successful and safe deployment in full scale.
- Cryptographic Center of Excellence: Copying the necessary government, methods and frames that constantly improve the posture and integration of readiness into all fractions of the company.
- Keeping education and workforce: Providing training and resources, security and wider organizational teams, equipped with knowledge and tools for managing quantum efficient transition.
